Peanut Butter Cheerio Balls

I would like to share with you one of my favorite snacks to make. Sadly, I do not make these enough but hopefully I’ll get back in the routine. They are super easy with only 5 ingredients (most of which you probably have on hand). These amazing treats are in no way healthy- but you might be able to substitute some items. In my mind I justify the amount of sugar by remembering it’s a protein filled snack … or you can accept their sinful goodness, skip the calorie count and focus on the mouth joy!



  • 1 Cup of Sugar
  • 1 Cup of Corn Syrup ( I use dark)
  • 1 Cup Creamy Peanut Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 5 Cups of Cheerios (I use Honey Nut Cheerios)
  • Waxed Paper


I have found that if you make half the recipe at a time, it is easier to mix all the ingredients and get everything coated well – it does take about 5 minutes longer though.

In a large sauce pan (I use a dutch oven), combine the sugar and corn syrup. Mix it well and bring to a boil over medium heat.

Allow mixture to boil for one minute (I stir every 20 seconds so it mixes well) and then remove from heat.

Add the peanut butter and vanilla to mixture and mix until until everything is smooth and blended.

Add Cheerios and mix until fully coated.

Make spoon sized droplets onto the waxed paper and let cool. (After stirring enough to get everything coated it is usually cool enough to use my hands to make the balls).


Depending on the size you make them, this recipe makes about 2 dozen. I generally put them in Tupperware or holiday tins and they last 1-2 weeks before becoming rock hard and inedible. They’re great from breakfasts, snacks and desserts!
